An experienced skipper already understands decisions, routines and responsibility on the water. Becoming an instructor adds the ability to explain those choices clearly and guide another person through practice.
Good instruction combines technical accuracy with planning, observation and useful feedback. The instructor must adapt the lesson while keeping standards consistent.
Professional development continues after qualification. Reflection, peer discussion and regular time at sea help instructors keep both their knowledge and teaching current.
